On December 18, 2010 Sharon Joy Weston married John Peter Hickey to become the newest member of the Hickey Clan. The wedding ceremony was held at Fairchild Chapel in Oberlin Ohio, in the very same church where Joy's grandparents had been married over fifty years earlier. It was very special to Joy to share the same venue as her grandparents and the ceremony went off beautifully. It was a simple ceremony surrounded by family and friends. I was anxious and the bride was stunning.

The weather was beautiful, though maybe a little cold, and we were surrounded by those closest to us, everyone was ready to love and support us, and that was made clear over the weeks previous to the ceremony.

The minister Rev. Denny McDonald is a close friend of Joy's, and after the time spent with Denny both in pre-marriage counseling and a few other encounters I became fond of him as well. His charisma seemed to draw everyone in during the ceremony, and his heartfelt advice will guide us in our marriage for many years to come.

I had arrived to the chapel first, and my groomsman and I started making sure everything was in order, but I was a little anxious that Joy wasnt there yet. She had a busy morning and I was nervous something had gone wrong. Most of that anxiousness went away when I heard she'd arrived at the church, and the rest when I saw her.

When Joy and her dad turned the corner to walk down the aisle my eyes welled up with tears. All of the anticipation and anxiety was replaced by relief...the moment was finally here. I'm the luckiest guy in the world.

As I recited my wovs to Joy I may have missed a word or two, but the chuckles from the family didnt slow things down any.
As Joy's Dad began singing "Ave Maria" a few heads turned and a couple jaws dropped. It was special to have her dad, who is the reason Joy loves singing perform so beautifully, and the pianist was John's childhood choir director.

During the rehearsal, Denny made sure to tell me that if the first kiss wasn't up to his standard...we would have to try again until we got it right. Lets just say there were no do-overs at our wedding (until the karaoke at the reception...).

The relief set in at that moment that we were finally finished with all of the planning. We had spent the past 9 months working towad this one moment, when I could finally call the woman I love my wife.

I couldnt wipe the grin off of my face, Denny announced Joy as Mrs. Hickey...I like the sound of that.
